What is Helical Baffle Heat Exchanger?

Helical Baffle Heat Exchanger is a kind of equipment that enhances the heat transfer effect by installing a helical baffle plate in the heat exchanger shell. Compared with the traditional heat exchanger, spiral folding plate heat exchanger has the following advantages:

Enhanced heat transfer efficiency: the spiral folded plate makes the shell fluid flow path longer, thus increasing the degree of fluid turbulence, significantly enhancing the heat transfer effect.

Reduced Pressure Drop: Compared to conventional refractory plates, spiral refractory plates can reduce the pressure drop of the fluid in the shell process while maintaining high heat transfer coefficients.

Reduce the accumulation of dirt: spiral folding plate design can reduce the dead space of the fluid in the heat exchanger, reduce the accumulation of dirt, improve the operating efficiency and service life of the heat exchanger.

Compact structure: spiral folded plate heat exchanger is usually more compact structure, occupies less space, suitable for use in space-constrained occasions.

Working Principle

In the spiral folded plate heat exchanger, the shell flow is guided by the spiral folded plate and flows along the spiral path, such a flow pattern makes the fluid continuously in a turbulent state, which improves the heat transfer coefficient. At the same time, the tube course fluid flows inside the tube and exchanges heat with the shell course fluid.

The most commonly used conventional heat exchanger is the bow folding plate, which has been gradually replaced by the spiral folding plate in recent years due to the defects such as large flow resistance and pressure drop, flow stagnation dead zones, easy fouling, small average temperature difference for heat transfer, and easy failure under vibration conditions.

The ideal spiral folding plate should have a continuous spiral surface. Due to processing difficulties, the current use of folding plate, generally by a number of 1/4 of the fan-shaped plane plate instead of the surface of the surface connected to each other, forming an approximate spiral surface.
